Important Voter Deadlines for the State Primary

BY JEANNE LUDT

Supervisor of the Checklist

The state primary elections will be held on September 8, 2026. During these primaries, both major political parties—Democrats and Republicans—will hold their elections simultaneously. Voters registered with a specific party may vote only in that party’s primary. To choose between party ballots, you must be registered as Undeclared.

It’s important to note that you cannot change your party affiliation on Election Day, so be sure to review your registration status in advance. The deadline to change your party affiliation prior to the state primary is June 2. If you are unsure of your current registration status, visit https://app.sos.nh.gov/viphome

The Amherst Supervisors of the Checklist will hold sessions at Town Hall on Thursday, May 7, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., and Tuesday, June 2, from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. During these times, you can register as a new voter, make additions or corrections to the checklist, and change your party affiliation. You can also change your party affiliation by visiting the Town Clerk’s office during regular business hours before June 2. https://www.amherstnh.gov/supervisors-checklist

The June 2 deadline does not apply to new voters. New voters may register with the Town Clerk up to 10 days before Election Day or at the polls on Election Day itself.

For additional information about voter registration or absentee ballots, please contact the Town Clerk at 603-673-6041, ext. 208.
